The most popular promotion offered at Walt Disney World is free dining. Food is often an extremely large portion of the cost of your trip so the word FREE normally has people jumping over each to book a vacation. As you know, I am not really a huge believer in anything being free. In order to receive free dining, you have to buy a full priced package. So how free is the dining when you can book a room through the discounted room promotion for sometimes 35% off the rack rate and pay for your food and come out much cheaper than a full rate package.
There are many ways to save money on the cost of your food at WDW.
Eat Breakfast & Snacks in your Hotel Room – You can save a good amount of money by doing this. Eating breakfast in your room helps you get an earlier start to your day. All rooms of refrigerators. You can bring cereal, bagels, donuts. Oatmeal can be made using the hot water from the coffee pot. When driving in you can even bring a cheap taster oven.
Bring Snacks and Water to the Parks – The cost of snacks and water add up quick! You can ship water and breakfast foods/snacks to your resort and it will be waiting for you when you arrive.
Another option for water is to ask at counter service restaurants for A CUP of water – it’s free.
Purchase Food with your Discounted Disney Gift Cards – You can purchase Disney Gift Cards at Target with your Red Card for a 5% discount. I know 5% doesn’t sound like much now – but 5% discount on your food all week adds up to quite a savings.
Order and eat kid’s meals at all quick service restaurants – I have yet to be able to finish a kid’s meal lunch at WDW! All kid’s meals come with a sandwich, drink, fruit and a dessert. A kid’s meal costs about $6. An adult’s quick service meal most often costs more than $10.
If you use the basic dining plan, never use a quick service meal for breakfast. Use it for lunch. It is far less expensive to purchase cereal, a bagel, fruit in your resorts food court than it is to purchase lunch in one of the parks.
Anyway…..the question here is will we see free dining in 2015. As of right now there has been no indication of this promotion being offered. However, historically it has been offered every year since 2010 – and released during the following months:
- August 2010
- May 2011
- August 2011
- March 2012
- July 2012
- May 2013
- August 2013
- May 2014
Will we see it this year? I think so. WDW has done everything possible over the last year to draw large crowds and they know the free dining promotion always boosts their reservations. The minute I hear – I will let you all know!
Don’t forget, you can book now and have your reservation updated to include the free dining promotion if and when it is released. I can help you with that, and I will make sure to apply the free dining as soon as possible.
