Like most Disney peeps, my family’s favorite Disney Resort is the Polynesian Resort. I’m pretty sure it has something to do with the tropical Polynesia atmosphere or maybe it’s the “special smell” when you walk into the Great Ceremonial House. Whatever your reasons- we all agree, it has the “IT” factor. With Florida’s balmy weather as the background, it makes for the perfect setting and ideal location amidst the craziness of Walt Disney World®.
This article will give you information on recent changes to our beloved “POLY.” My family will experience the changes first hand this July, we are a bit hesitant of the construction, but we can’t see ourselves at any other resort but “home.” Awe! Please remember information changes daily, contact a Disney representative for current resort information, call (407) 939-5277.
*First things first, they are adding DVC bungalows to the resort, from what I gather they obstruct the view of the castle from previous theme-park views.
*Rapa Nui, Tahiti & Tokelau are also becoming DVC.
*The Great Ceremonial House will include a redesign and some additions as well, expected finish date is December 2014.
*Our Beloved Water Feature in the center of the lobby in the GCH has been drained & will be removed. A staple at the Poly for 43 years will vanish, wahhh, say it isn’t so 🙁
*Closure of Tahiti beach and Sunset Pointe for bungalow construction is currently going on.
*Captain Cook’s finally closed and moved into its temporary location at Cast Cove area (Cast member cafeteria.) Possibly to make way for more dining options which may include a new restaurant & expanded Captain Cook’s. Expected finish date is July, but it might be longer.
*The arcade is gone, probably forever. Outside the arcade will possibly be the new location for the kids “wet play area.”
*Neverland Club is closed, supposedly being reimagined with a new Hawaiian theme & renamed. Kids Club is set to reopen in late May.
*Wyland Gallery is closed; the old Wyland Gallery area might turn into an ice cream shop-with an order window for Dole Whips. No more self-serve. (Take this with a grain of salt)
*The latest on the closure of the Nanea Pool, it is projected to close on July 27 and not reopen until March 2015. They better stick to this one-if my family arrives early July to a closed Nanea pool, there might be a mutiny of sorts. Teenagers can be brutal, can I get an AMEN?
*Saturday (April 12) was the last torch lighting ceremony. It might possibly move to a designated area around the new pool deck.
*Walkways around the resort & the main parking lot are being updated & some have already been completed.
*Second floor work to Trader Jack’s and Samoa Snacks will be completed in May to late August.
*DVC opens in late 2015.
*The projected finish date for Disney’s POLYnesian Resort- late 2015 or early 2016
