It seems like much of Walt Disney World has been under construction for the longest time. Each park has been undergoing major refurbishment and additions that seem never ending. So what exactly do we know will be ready in 2016 – here’s a list:
New Restaurants Opening in 2016
Homecoming – Florida Kitchen and Southern Shine – Disney Springs. Celebrity Chef Art Smith will open this new restaurant that will feature a Florida inspired menu and farm to table ingredients.
Frontera Fresco – Another celebrity chef – Rick Bayless (Top Chef: Masters) will be opening a Mexican restaurant at Disney Springs.
STK Restaurant coming to Disney Springs – unknown date in 2016
NBA Experience restaurant – also coming to Disney Springs in late 2016 or early 2017. Rumor has this new restaurant taking over the space now occupied by Disney Quest.
The Planet Hollywood Observatory – a re-design of Planet Hollywood will have the restaurant close in early 2016 and re-open later in the year.
Tiffin – This new Discovery Island restaurant in Animal Kingdom will open in Spring 2016
New Rides/Attractions Opening in 2016
Soarin’ Around the World – Early in 2016 Soarin’ will close and reopen in Spring 2016 after several months of refurbishment as Soarin’ Around the World.
Frozen Ever After May 2016 will open in the Norway Pavilion of Epcot’s World Showcase
Kilimanjaro Sunset Safaris – in 2016 lights will be added to extend the hours of this well-loved attraction. The lighting is reported to give the appearance of the setting sun.
Royal Sommerhus Frozen Meet and Greet is an entirely new building created next to the existing Norway Pavilion that will also open in May 2016.
Rivers of Light nighttime show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom that will feature live music, floating lanterns, water screens and swirling animal imagery all centered around an illuminated Tree of Life.
Flamingo Crossings – There has not been much published regarding this new area. Disney has been quietly building a new shopping and entertainment complex scheduled to begin operation in 2016 with the opening of 2 hotels. Already confirmed tenants are Marriott’s TownePlace Suites and Spring Hill Suites. The area is located right outside Walt Disney World’s western gate.
End of 2015 Openings:
The Jungle Naviation Company – Skipper Canteen this new location will be taking over the Magic Kingdom space formerly the Adventureland Veranda restaurant. It is rumored that similar to Be Our Guest, the restaurant will be quick service during the day and table service in the evening.
Star Wars Launch Bay – open December 1, 2015
Sunset Theater Showcase – Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple – scheduled to open December, 2015 – will be a new show that will focus on the characters of the Star Wars Rebels animated show on Disney XD.
The Ganachery: a shop full of custom hand-crafted chocolates at Disney Springs – Scheduled to open December 15, 2015
Attractions/restaurants coming with no opening time frame announced:
The Edison also coming to Disney Springs, this new dining/bar will be based on the original nightclub in Los Angeles
Slinky Dog roller coaster in Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Toy Story Land)
Buzz Lightyear spinning ride in Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Toy Story Land)
Star Wars Cantina restaurant – confirmed but no time frame
