I know it has been awhile since Part Two, but things were relatively quiet until this past month. First, the Disney Armed Forces Salute was released a few weeks ago. So, I called to have the discount applied to our rooms and was told that all of the discounted rooms at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa were already taken and that I’d have to pick a different hotel and he rattled off a bunch of names. Since this trip is for my parents, mostly my mom since Dad just goes where she tells him to, I didn’t want to make that sort of decision without her. So, I hung up with Disney and I called my mom who gave me a list of acceptable options. Then, I called back and got this very nice gentleman who, very apologetically, informed me that all of the deluxe hotels were full. I was now at a loss, so he told me to go ahead and add my mom to the conversation so we could get it all figured out. So I did and we found that all that was left of discounted rooms for the week we were travelling was a group of three one bedroom villas at Saratoga Springs. This was not really what we wanted but at that point, we were in a “beggars can’t be choosers” sort of situation and we took the rooms.
After that, we had to tell the rest of the family what happened, redo all of the math that determined the cost everyone paid, and send out new totals. This did not go over well. Saving money was the only plus side because no one really wanted to stay at Saratoga Springs except my horse crazy sister and it was much further away from the Magic Kingdom® and would disrupt a lot of plans. So, the next day, after they released the fall Room Only discount, I went back and checked availability with the discount applied (you can’t do this on their website for the military discount-you have to rely on the cast member on the phone). When I did this, Saratoga Springs popped up, but so did the Cabins at Fort Wilderness. I called my mom and asked what she thought, and within half an hour, we had gone from 3 villas to 2 cabins. Once we redid the math (again) everyone was saving a ton of money and one of my sisters had even over paid. I emailed Kingdom Strollers to let them know that we had changed hotels and that I needed all three strollers moved and within 24 hours, I had a response letting me know the hotel had been changed and the strollers would be waiting at our new hotel. We’ve never stayed in the cabins before, so it will be an adventure.
Once that mess was cleaned up, it was onto the next. FastPass+ reservations. With the renewed Armed Forces Salute, the tickets are scheduled to go on sale on August 25th. Our 60 day mark was on August 6th. I went and bought 5 discounted tickets and applied them to the two girls, my sisters, and me so I could try to get us Anna and Elsa (didn’t happen). Once the other tickets are available, I’ll go and buy those and hope for the best in copying our FastPass+ selections to the new tickets. Honestly, the FastPass+ reservation system is confusing. You pick what you want and then it gives you all of these time options, but then you can adjust the times yourself after you make your choice. If I can adjust the times, why did you offer me times? Honestly, I think the process took a lot more time than it should have. Once I have the rest of the tickets, we’ll see if there is any more frustration coming my way.
So, thus far, we have a hotel, all of our dining reservations, an appointment for my nephew to get his first haircut, an appointment for the little girls at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party tickets for whoever wanted them, and tickets and FastPass+ selections for about half the group. All we have left is to wait for our MagicBands, get the last six tickets, and get there. Here’s hoping it goes smoothly.
