Unexpected Magic Really Does Happen at Walt Disney World!

Unexpected Magic WDW

We all expect a certain amount of magic and pixie dust when we visit Walt Disney World and we all hear about those little bits of extra that people talk about. Things that can’t be planned. Things that just happen because of the kindness of Cast Members or a family being in just the right spot at just the right time. Being family of the day at the Magic Kingdom or your child/grandchild chosen for some special recognition. For years I always loved reading about those unexpected magical little happenings that lucky families experienced. Then, one day, it happened to us!

We were roaming through Epcot one evening trying to decide what to eat for dinner. We had no dining reservations because we had a large table service lunch so had decided to eat whatever we could for dinner. It was getting late, everyone was hungry so as we walked through the United Kingdom pavilion area, I quickly asked if they had a table available for 5 for dinner. As luck would have it, after a brief 10 minute wait, we were ushered into the Rose and Crown to a great table where my granddaughter would easily be able to view the Illuminations fireworks while we ate.

A few minutes after sitting down and looking at the menu, the manager and our server came to our table and asked to speak to my granddaughter. Suddenly she was shy!! They explained to her that Mickey was stuck in a monorail traffic jam. He frantically called asking for help ~ he wouldn’t be able to get to Epcot in time to start Illuminations: Reflections of Earth and all the families visiting would be terribly disappointed when there were no fireworks. Mickey needs her help! Can she please take over for him and start the show? Mickey would be forever grateful and she would be surely be saving him from embarrassment.

We were not all able to go due to limited space so off went my granddaughter and daughter-in-law down to the water. When they arrived, my granddaughter was handed a long, lighted wand with a button on the handle. They explained to her that when they counted to three, it was her job to press the button on the wand to start the show. They asked her to point the wand at a specific spot and started the countdown. 1 ~ 2 ~ 3 ~ Press! Without a seconds hesitation the sky lit up, the music started and my granddaughter was in awe!

Needless to say, for the next few days, everywhere we went, to anyone that would listen, my granddaughter told how she was now Mickey’s helper and started the fireworks for him. She carried her special wand around for weeks.

The excitement and special feeling could never be planned. It was one of those things that you read about happening to others all the time. It was one of those things my granddaughter will never forget – Thank You Disney!

Have you ever been lucky enough to have some unexpected magic come your way?
