5 Tips to Help Beat the Heat at Walt Disney World

One of the best pieces of information for those of you visiting Walt Disney World® Resort in the heat is “be prepared!” The temperature may say 90 or 92 but add in really really high humidity and it can often make you feel like you’re melting! And…don’t forget your sunscreen (and re-apply often).

#1 – Take an Afternoon Break at Your Hotel

This is the perfect solution for those with little ones or for those that do not do well in the heat! Whenever possible, refresh at your resort during the heat of the day with a cool shower, a little nap, or a dip in the pool. Not only will this help cool you down and refresh you, but it will give you a break during the busiest times (noon to 4 p.m.) and the hottest times (noon to 3 p.m.). During the summer months the parks stay open a little later so leaving mid-day and coming back later on is very easy to do.mickey float

#2 – Take Advantage of the Numerous Indoor Shows

Cool off in the air conditioning while you enjoy a show! For example, at the Magic Kingdom Park, you can do this in the Enchanted Tiki Room, Hall of Presidents, Mickey’s Philharmagic, Carousel of Progress, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, Dumbo the Flying Elephant indoor circus play area, and Enchanted Tales with Belle. Cool off at Splash Mountain too! Each park offers indoor areas and shows that will have you out of the sun and in the air conditioning.

#3 – Splash ‘N’ Soak and water rides that get you wet!

Throughout the day you can head over to different areas in the parks and take a leisurely stroll through splash n’ soak areas or get soaked riding Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom Park or Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom Park and you are sure to stay cool until your clothes dry! Throughout the day never miss a cooling day wet spot!

#4 – Enjoy a Table Service Meal

Plan a sit down meal for a late lunch/early dinner so you can relax and cool off in an air conditioned dining location during the hottest portion of the day.

#5 – FREE Ice Water

Stay hydrated! Take advantage of the fact that Walt Disney World offers FREE ice water at all quick-service locations. This will keep you cool and hydrated.

Go to one of the water parks for a day. You can play in the wave pool all day and never wait in line. You can also float the day away on the lazy river. Of course, there are plenty of water slides, but you may have to wait in line for some of those.
