Whether you are looking for a new exciting place to visit or considering a day trip if you live near by, why not consider Greenville, South Carolina. The Greenville area is one of the largest cities in South Carolina – but with old southern town charm. You’ll almost forget you are in a city! You don’t have to go far to experience a mix of culture, art, and history.
You can expect to be charmed by Greenville in the way that only a southern town can charm you. Few cities in the country can boast having a downtown area like Greenville does.
Things to Do Greenville SC
Most restaurants in the area are locally owned and you can have a true culinary adventure when you visit Greenville.
Here are some great and affordable things to do in Greenville with your family without upsetting your budget.
Greenville Zoo
The Greenville Zoo is one of the most popular family attractions in the Upstate. The zoo has 100 species of animals from all over the world on exhibit including the white tiger, red panda, exotic birds, African elephants, monkeys, and so much more.
Falls Park in Downtown Greenville
One of my favorite places to visit when in Downtown Greenville is Falls Park. Falls Park is located in Greenville’s historical West End. Falls Park is known for its Liberty Bridge, a 355 foot long curved pedestrian suspension bridge which spans over the Reedy River Falls. Visitors can view beautifully maintained public gardens and the waterfall from the Liberty Bridge.
Falls Park is a popular destination where families can enjoy a picnic or walk around while enjoying the view. If you enjoy Shakespeare plays, you can see them during the “Shakespeare in the Park” festival during the summer at the Falls Park Amphitheater.
If you enjoy walking, you can take the walking trail from Falls Park to Cleveland Park. You will see some historical markers and views of the waterfall along the way.
Free Entertainment
Almost every night of the week during the spring through fall, there is always something to do in Downtown Greenville. The city offers live music, plays, and festivals such as Artisphere and Fall for Greenville which is hosted every year in October. There are a variety of food vendors and restaurants where you can try out different types of food from all over the world.
If you need to give your feet a rest, you can board the Downtown Trolley.
The Downtown Trolley is owned by the Greenville Drive baseball team and is operated and maintained by the City of Greenville. The best part about the trolley is that you can see downtown and there is no charge to ride.
Mice on Main
If you enjoy scavenger hunts, you will enjoy Mice on Main. There are nine bronze mice hidden in downtown. You can begin your search at the Hyatt Plaza and use the hints to find the mice and have a fun filled afternoon in Downtown Greenville with the family.
You can download the mice hints from the City of Greenville website.
I’ve searched for the Mice on Main and believe me, it’s an adventure!
Heritage Green
If you are a history and or art enthusiast, you will enjoy visiting Heritage Green. Heritage Green offers history and cultural sites, and is home to the Greenville County Library, the Greenville County Art Museum, the Upcountry History Museum, and the Greenville Little Theatre.
Breweries
Greenville is home to some of the hottest breweries around. You can pick a perfect beer tour or create your own tour with an interactive and printable brewery maps.
