Based on favorable reviews I have read, I made a reservation to eat dinner at The Turf Club Bar and Grill located at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort. Since I had heard nothing but good things about this restaurant, my husband and I were looking forward to a nice, leisurely dinner. The location is beautiful – whether sitting inside or outside (under a large covering) you have a breath-taking view of Lake Buena Vista Golf Course. However, apart from the view, I was extremely disappointed.
Since we had traveled a good portion of the day, I had made our reservation for an early dinner (5:30 p.m.). When we arrived, there were only one or two parties seated for dinner. We were seated in the first small dining area that consists of only 5 or 6 tables at a table for 2 that was VERY small – just enough room for dinner plates. We were seated at the window with a beautiful view. However, we were also seated 2 tables behind the check-in podium where 5 or 6 cast members stood at all times laughing and joking about their personal lives, in a very loud manner. To our left was the divider into the kitchen (noisy) where the cast member servers congregated laughing and joking the same way. I have to say that our cast member server, Houda, was wonderful – considerate, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and was not one of those standing around at either location joking.
My husband ordered the New York Strip Steak:
The steak was very thin and required a good deal of trimming away of fat and grizzle before he could eat it. The mashed potatoes were served ice-cold. He did, however, enjoy the asparagus!
I ordered the Crispy Free Range Boneless Chicken Breast with Three Cheese Casserole:
The three cheese casserole looked delicious – however, it was very bland. I added pepper 2 or 3 times trying to get the flavor to jump out at me. I will say that the chicken breast was juicy and tender – but mediocre when it came to flavor. The “seasonal” vegetables were a soggy green bean that almost appeared to be from a can in a very tart vinegar base liquid – I did taste them but did not continue to eat them after that first taste.
For dessert we ordered a cheese cake with seasonal fruit topping and a seasonal fruit crisp (apple) cobbler – both good but not outstanding. However, since neither of us really enjoyed or finished our meals, we did finish our desserts!
The best part of our dinner was the fact that we were able to walk down the steps directly to the boat landing to head over to Downtown Disney for the evening. I don’t know that I would recommend the Turf Club to others based on this meal – but, if you have had a better experience while dining there – I would love to hear about it and be willing to possibly give it a second chance in the future!
