I love movies based on true stories. I guess you can say I’m sort of a history nerd. I know that Hollywood doesn’t always stick to all that is fact when making movies about real events but most let you know the true “meat and bones” of what happened. Based on what I have seen and read about “The Finest Hours”, the film is not only realistic, but also very fact based so I’m really looking forward to seeing the film.

See the latest trailer from the heroic action-thriller, “The Finest Hours” ~ a remarkable true story of a daring rescue mission by the U.S. Coast Guard. Presented in Digital 3D™, Real D 3D and IMAX® 3D, the film transports audiences to the heart of the action, creating a fully-immersive cinematic experience on an epic scale – “The Finest Hours” opens January 29, 2016.

In the winter of 1952, two World War II-era tanker ships faced catastrophe during a horrific nor’easter off the coast of Massachusetts. The ships, the SS Pendleton and SS Fort Mercer, split in two within hours of each other in frigid cold and monstrous waves, leaving their crew members with just hours to live before the ships went down. The crew of motor life boat CG 36500 and the crew of a surfboat from the USCGC Yakutat heroically rescued nearly all the tankers’ crewmen. Despite overwhelming odds, four men, led by Coast Guard Captain Bernie Webber (Chris Pine), set out in a wooden lifeboat with an ill-equipped engine and little, if any, means of navigation, facing frigid temperatures, 60-foot high waves and hurricane-force winds. The movie is based on a 2009 book by the same name.
