The Tam O’Shanter Irish Pub has been delighting diners for 90 years and is the oldest restaurant operated by the same family in the same location in Los Angeles. But for a Disney lover like me, the restaurant is so much more than that. It was Walt Disney’s favorite restaurant! In fact Walt Disney ate there so often with his Imagineers while they were planning Disneyland, it was often referred to as the Disney Commissary. Walt was a regular at Tam O’Shanter, which was a stone’s throw away from his studio. It was the ideal place for Walt to grab a quick bite of lunch always sitting at table #31 (which is still there today!)
Even after Disney Studios moved, Walt Disney remained a regular of the restaurant and would often stop by after work bringing friends, visitors and employees. Table #31 even has some ‘sketches’ left behind in the tabletop that are said to be made by Walt and his Imagineers while they planned and ate. The original look of the restaurant is said to have inspired the cottage in Snow White!
The restaurant looks very different today, but remains a great spot to visit, have a hearty meal and re-live some Disney history. So if you will be visiting L.A. don’t miss having a meal here.

Kat also recently did poster signings at “Walt’s Table (#31)” for the winner of a contest held by Trader Sams Coffee Company to name the Witches Brew – Happily Never After – which is part of their Disney Inspired line of coffees.
