This Year Marks The 31st Consecutive Year
Of The Popular, Free Concert Series in Naples, Florida
A popular Southwest Florida tradition continues, as The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club will again host its annual “SummerJazz on the Gulf” concert series. This will mark the 31st consecutive year of the fun, free, and family-friendly concert series, which combines festive Jazz entertainment with truly beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico, extraordinary sunsets, cool breezes, and a relaxing atmosphere. Each concert is held on the family-owned resort’s picturesque Watkins Lawn overlooking the Gulf. “SummerJazz on the Gulf” will take place one Saturday evening per month June-September, and each concert will be from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. This year’s concerts will be on Saturday, June 25; Saturday, July 16; Saturday, August 20; and Saturday, September 24, 2016.
According to Susan Savino, Director of Conference Services at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club and organizer of the annual concert series, the 2016 “SummerJazz on the Gulf” line-up is:
- Pocket Change – Saturday, June 25, 2016
- Vodkanauts – Saturday, July 16, 2016
- The Betty Fox Band – Saturday, August 20, 2016
- Late Night Brass – Saturday, September 24, 2016.
“We are very pleased to bring back four of our most popular SummerJazz bands in celebration of the 31st anniversary of the concert series,” said Savino. “Pocket Change is the perfect way to kick-off this year’s SummerJazz. They are a vibrant, high-energy band which is returning to SummerJazz for the fourth time. They always do a great job, and are such a crowd-pleaser. It promises to be a terrific concert series.”
Each concert will be held from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. on the Watkins Lawn. Hotel guests will receive complimentary parking at the resort. For those not staying at the resort there will be parking just north of the hotel at Lowdermilk Park, with free parking provided to those with a Naples beach sticker, and free trolley service to the resort and back. Pocket Change will kick-off this year’s “SummerJazz on the Gulf” concert series on Saturday, June 25, 2016. The talented 6-piece, high-energy show band performs Motown, Funk, R&B Variety, Soul, and Dance/Party music. Known for their beautiful vocals and harmonies, and for their showmanship, Pocket Change is led by Bandleader Eddie “The Thrill” Carmichael and Music Director Otis “Maestro” McCarthy. The band has opened for Sean Paul, Journey, Blue Oyster Cult, Paul Revere and The Raiders, Cheap Trick, and Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. They have performed at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, Universal Studios Florida, Seminole Casino, Walt Disney World®, and House of Blues (in Orlando and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina). Vodkanauts will perform on Saturday, July 16, 2016. The talented five-piece band nicely blends jazz and rock-and-roll with time-tested tunes with inventive arrangements, delivered with true showmanship and crowd-pleasing energy. Known for their medleys and engaging performances, they play a range of songs that includes rhythm & blues, jazz, soul, swing and surf rock. The Betty Fox Band will perform at SummerJazz on the Gulf on Saturday, August 20, 2016. Known for its blues and funk-infused soul, the band is led by fiery songstress Betty Fox. The band was an International Blues Challenge finalist (in the top 8 of 150 bands), and is a two-time winner of Creative Loafing’s “Best of the Bay” as Tampa/St. Petersburg’s “Best Local Blues Act” in a reader’s poll. The band has opened for such artists as Mavis Staples, The Legendary JC’s, Damon Fowler, The Meter Men, and Roosevelt Collier of The Lee Boys. This season’s final SummerJazz concert on Saturday, September 24, 2016, will feature the very popular and versatile 11-piece band Late Night Brass. Returning to SummerJazz for the eighth consecutive year, this high-energy band features a powerful four-piece horn section (saxophone, two trumpets, and trombone), a driving five-piece rhythm section (keyboard, guitar, bass, drums, and Latin percussion), a dynamic male vocalist, and a very talented female vocalist. They will perform a range of songs from such popular horn bands as Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Kool & The Gang, KC & The Sunshine Band, and Blood Sweat & Tears. The band also plays songs from such groups as Huey Lewis & The News, The Blues Brothers, and Doobie Brothers.
