Where else can you stroll along miles of gorgeous sandy beaches, see spectacular marine wild-life, partake in limitless outdoor activities, and more? Numerous choices abound for activities to enjoy along the northwest Florida coast.

This area boasts miles and miles of scenic ocean views, thick white sandy beaches and sparkling blue-green water.

Known as the Emerald Coast, this area is simply breathtaking.

Indeed, the Emerald Coast lives up to its name and has lots to offer as a vacation destination. Consider flying in to the Pensacola airport conveniently situated in the panhandle area, and taking a vacation to include the cities and towns along the scenic Highway 98 corridor.

Part of the fun is the journey … not just the destination.

Your romantic vacation can start with a visit to historic Pensacola, a city with 52 miles of beautiful beaches. Rich in history, Spanish sailors first discovered this paradise, arriving in 1559. It soon was established as one of the very first European settlements in North America.

Pensacola is a great place to start your vacation, as it offers something for everyone. You can spend the day casually browsing the National Naval Aviation Museum (free admission!), tour the flight line or sit in a simulator of a Navy jet.

This museum is ranked in the top 10 attractions to visit in the state of Florida, and also offers IMAX presentations and a café.

It’s a great place to spend a few hours, while learning more about aviation history in the city which is home of the famous Blue Angels.

For the more adventurous, consider booking an excursion with Gulf Breeze Guide Service. You can take part in a fishing expedition while boating along the scenic Intra-coastal Waterway.

Here you can take in the gorgeous scenery and unique wildlife, and possibly catch that night’s supper.

This guide service has arrangements with several area restaurants where your catch-of-the-day can be prepared into a delicious dinner for you to enjoy later that evening. Nothing says romance better than a unique meal comprised of your fresh catch, paired up with a bottle of fine wine while enjoyed in a peaceful dining atmosphere. How cool is that?

While there are numerous condo rentals available right on the beach, you may consider staying a night at the Springhill Guesthouse, just a short walk from the Downtown area. Located in the historic North Hill District, the Guesthouse was built in 1901 and offers modern conveniences as well as old-fashioned charm.

This bed and breakfast is a good choice to consider after unwinding from a full day of fishing, para-sailing, scuba diving or exploring museums. If you aren’t yet ready to call it a night, you can enjoy a jaunt over to the famous Seville Quarter where something is always going on. Here you can listen to live music, karaoke, or just unwind with a unique brew or signature beverage while considering the next adventure on your vacation itinerary.

Driving south on Highway 98, you will encounter more exciting vacation adventures. The Emerald Coast only becomes more spectacular the further south you travel.

Destin Florida is a great spot to enjoy a jet ski or para-sailing adventure. You can also take a ride in a glass bottom boat, or enjoy fresh seafood in a variety of dining venues.

Feel like seeing the marine life without venturing to Sea World? The Gulfarium, just north of Destin in Ft. Walton Beach, offers live marine shows each day, as well as dolphin encounters where you can experience the marine life up close and personal!

Not especially large in size, the beauty of the Gulfarium is that you can easily spend a few hours there, and have plenty of time to venture onward with other plans for your day. This may include a relaxing lunch at famous Fudruckers Restaurant, or taking in some shopping up at the Sandestin Outlet Center just south of the Destin area.

The beaches of South Walton County in the northwest portion of Florida, also offer many excellent vacation possibilities. A drive down scenic Highway 30-A will provide numerous photo opportunities and breathtaking sights to see, so make sure your camera batteries are charged.

While in the area, you cannot go wrong arranging for a stay in nearby Seaside.

The town of Seaside is an artsy, pedestrian-friendly, unique community of white-picket fences and pastel-colored cottages. A true get-away destination, you can stroll the streets of the community and walk miles along the coastal shorelines without a worry of bustling traffic or motorists.

Here, you will feel like you have truly gotten away from it all. Bring or rent a bicycle, if possible. Or better yet, rent a tandem bicycle built for two!

A stay at Seaside is a place where you can truly relax and unwind. As you settle into a nice spot on the white sand of Seagrove beach in gorgeous South Walton County, you’ll soon reflect on what a wonderful trip it has been.

Certainly this vacation will be one that you will remember with fondness, and be thrilled to repeat in years to come.
