Disney’s Port Orleans Resort is a Walt Disney World favorite that draws inspiration from New Orleans and the Louisiana bayou. If you’re looking for the perfect location to enjoy yummy beignets and a New Orleans atmosphere, Port Orleans is the place for you. It’s actually two resorts in one!
Accommodations
Port Orleans is made up of two different accommodation options. The first one being Port Orleans – French Quarter, a hotel celebrating the famous French Quarter in New Orleans. Makes sense, right? There, you’ll find lively jazz bands and a variety of Mardi Gras-inspired characters.
The second hotel, Port Orleans – Riverside, takes guests into the bayou by way of Cajun and creole-style food and entertainment. If your favorite canine is traveling with you to WDW, you’ll appreciate the fact that Riverside is dog friendly.
Restaurants
At the French Quarter resort, you’ll definitely enjoy the menu offerings at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. This quick-service restaurant serves up Mardi Gras favorites such as grits and Po’ Boys.
For a sit-down dining experience, head over to the Riverside resort and visit Boatwright’s Dining Hall, the casual dining restaurant situated in a rustic shipyard warehouse. The menu features Cajun favorites like jambalaya and catfish. This is a “dinner only” restaurant and advance reservations are highly recommended.
Things to Do
There’s plenty of fun to be had at Port Orleans, when you want to take a break from one of the parks. Horse-drawn carriage rides are available to take you on a serene trip along the banks of the Sassagoula River.
Feel like taking a swim? Take a dip in the swimmin’ hole on Ol’ Man Island at PO Riverside. This island is a fun three-and-a-half-acre hideaway, also home to a catch and release fishin’ hole… stocked with bluegill, bass and catfish. It’s easy to get to, walking across one of three wooden bridges.
The dragon water slide at PO French Quarter is always a hit too!
On certain nights, you can even catch a classic Disney film outside, brought to you by Movies Under the Stars. Other activities include the Medicine Show Arcade, bike rentals and nighttime campfires. S’mores, anyone?
This is just a brief overview of Disney’s Port Orleans resort. Not only does the moderately-priced option feature beautiful scenery and loads of Southern hospitality, it’s close to Epcot and Hollywood Studios as well. Both resorts are a short and easy boat ride to Disney Springs too!
The Disney Port Orleans Resorts are my favorites! If I were to narrow it down I would definitely choose Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter for sure. The resort is much smaller than Riverside which makes it easy to navigate.
