It had been a couple of years since I’d eaten at ‘Ohana for breakfast. Dinner is always a must do for my family, but I was pleasantly surprised by the breakfast! ‘Ohana means family, and at breakfast here at The Polynesian Resort, they serve it family style! This means that all the food is brought to your table, but you can ask for as much as you like! And trust me, you’ll be asking for seconds and thirds. I’m pretty sure I kept eating all the bacon.
First your Cousin (your server) brings a basket of sweet breads and some POG juice. It is a mixture of pineapple, orange and guava juices. I remember loving it, but it seemed really sweet to me this time. You can also ask for a different drink, including coffee and tea. Then comes the platter with the scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, and biscuits! It’s a big platter, so everyone at the table helps themselves. Next the server comes around with my favorite…what makes a Disney breakfast a Disney breakfast….Mickey Waffles! At any time you can always ask for more of one thing, two things, or everything! I love this with small children, because at buffets, I feel like I’m up and down, always getting something for them. This way I get to enjoy my food, too! While you’re eating, different characters come around to the table. The usual suspects are Lilo and Stitch, Mickey, and Pluto! Characters are subject to change. The children (and adults, too!) also get to enjoy a parade around the room with the characters! There’s something about Stitch that I love! He’s crazy, but he’s the one who stitches Lilo’s family together, so he holds a special place in my heart! I was trying to resist getting pictures with characters, but then I thought, why fight it? They make me feel giddy! I did not go with my own daughters to this meal, but there was a special little girl in our party. The looks on her face when the characters came around were priceless. The food is definitely delicious, but in all honesty, it’s the character interaction you’re paying for. No character lines..good food..’Ohana is definitely a winner! Plus, I’ll take any excuse to visit the beautiful Polynesian Resort. To make online reservations, visit here or call (407) WDW-DINE and jump on your Hawaiian Roller Coaster ride.
