I am Annoyed and Frustrated and More Annoyed!
I have been visiting Walt Disney World® since the 70’s on a regular basis – several times a year – for short stays – for long stays and sometimes just for a day! Over the years the changes have been many – mostly good. Quite often some of the changes take some getting used to but once they have been in place for a while they become “old hat” and we see the value in the change. I have always tried to embrace each new change over the years believing that Disney knew what was best for the guests. Unfortunately, I don’t know if I will feel the same way about the new FastPass+ system.
I will be visiting Walt Disney World® again this week. The first issue I have with the new FastPass+ system is that I am a “fly by the seat of your pants” Walt Disney World® visitor. Because I go so often, I no longer plan each hour, each meal or each day. I do make some dining reservations before going – but not many. While I am there I get up in the morning and decide what I want to do that day and do it. Having to decide what park and what attractions I want to go on and which day of my trip I want to do it long before I get there, annoyed me. Having to tell Disney what park I may go to on what day, annoyed me. We are park hoppers – the fact that you can only choose one park per day to get FastPasses, annoyed me. The tiered system – one from column A – 2 from column B – annoyed me. So, long before my trip dates, I was annoyed! But I gave it a try, and sat down the day I could start choosing attractions and made my decisions based on what I thought I might do on what days.
Over the weeks that passed since I made those annoying FastPass+ arrangements many aspects of my trip changed. I am a blogger – several opportunities in the Orlando area came my way and the dates coincided with my trip this week. I rarely pass up good opportunities and I surely wasn’t going to start now based on the fact that I have a FastPass reservation for a certain day or time. So a few days ago I sat down at the computer on My Disney Experience to rearrange my FastPass+ reservations. Well, let me tell you – MUCH EASIER SAID THAN DONE!
All I basically wanted to do was change my FastPasses at the Magic Kingdom® on Thursday to FastPasses at the Magic Kingdom® on Friday. I also wanted to change my Friday FastPasses at Epcot® to Thursday FastPasses at Epcot®. I will be meeting a business associate and a friend for dinner on Thursday in Epcot® so wanted to spend Thursday afternoon in Epcot® instead of in the Magic Kingdom®. I was able to obtain a FastPass for lunch at Be Our Guest on Friday so wanted to be in the Magic Kingdom® on Friday. Sounds simple enough until you try to do it.
One hour and twenty minutes into it – I had no guarantee the changes were made because although I cancelled all FastPasses and basically started over re-scheduling FastPasses for the days I now wanted – the My Disney Experience program continued to tell me it could not recognize my changes – it showed me visiting both Epcot® and Magic Kingdom® on the same day with one FastPass in each park and flashing read letters telling me I could only arrange FastPass+ for one park per day. Frustration (and swear words) were flying – I was not impressed or pleased with the system. So I walked away from it thinking that maybe the system would catch up with the changes. I would go back to it later. I walked away frustrated and you guessed it – annoyed.
I came back to it four hours later. Logged into My Disney Experience and found there was no change. I played with it for another 30 minutes – I gave up and called the help line. I waited on hold for seven minutes. I was now one hour and fifty seven minutes and a long distance phone call into making some simple changes to FastPasses. FastPasses that I was annoyed I had to make so far in advance in the first place! Fortunately, a nice young man came on the line and within seconds assured me that my changes were in fact in the system. He read me my selections for each day and then told me that it seems the FastPass+ System works well but the My Disney Experience seems to create lots of problems and is inaccurate. He would report the inaccuracies in my itinerary to the proper department and “HOPEFULLY” My Disney Experience will work properly and well when I arrive at Walt Disney World®.
If it doesn’t – I am sure you will be reading once again – that I am Annoyed!
Today, several days later My Disney Experience still shows inaccurate information for my FastPass+ selections. So – just in case – since I won’t be able to use the APP with inaccurate information – in order to remember my FastPass times I have to carry an index card with me to the parks to know my FastPass times. You guessed it! ANNOYED!
On a side note I must add that this experience with the system, before I have even arrived at WDW, has me prepared for the system not working properly while I am there. A friend just returned after a week in WDW and she experienced many problems with My Disney Experience not showing proper information – but the good news – it was finally correct the day she was leaving to go home!
