ALONG THE MAY RIVER IN BLUFFTON, SOUTH CAROLINA
A few months back, a fellow blogger at Motherhood & Beyond was lucky enough to be invited to attend the Mazda Press Event at the Montage Palmetto Bluff Resort in gorgeous South Carolina. Unfortunately, Lauren was not able to go and asked if I would attend and represent her site and I was thrilled to help! I was provided free accommodations and meals while attending the Mazda Southern Escape media event, however, all opinions remain my own.
I don’t believe we ever fully appreciate the state or area of the country we live in. We take so much of what it has to offer for granted, so when Motherhood & Beyond sent me on assignment to the Montage Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina for the Mazda Southern Escape event I never expected to be blown away by the resort. I admit it isn’t super easy to get to. That being said I have to say it isn’t super easy for me to fly anywhere from where I live. I could have driven in and it would have most likely been a fairly simple 4 or 4.5 hour drive, but I decided to fly, which required I fly from Myrtle Beach to Charlotte, NC to Savannah, GA. The resort is a very easy 30 minute drive back into South Carolina from the Savannah Airport. Most of that 30 minute drive is through some of the most beautiful South Carolina countryside. When you enter the grounds of Montage Palmetto Bluff you enter through an enormous and beautiful canopy of trees dripping with live moss. The picturesque landscaping driving into the entrance instantly has you imagining yourself going back in time to an old southern plantation.
THE RESORT PROPERTY & AMENITIES
The resort property is in excess of 20,000 acres and encompasses nature preserves, walking trails, a shopping village, marina, several restaurants, a spa and a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. The Inn at Palmetto Bluffs is a five star luxury resort village hidden away in the low-country of South Carolina. The entry and driveway is a 10 minute ride in because the Inn sits back along the bank of the May River.
Spread out among lagoons, bridges and the river are the hotel, cottages, villas, and townhouses, as well as private homes available for vacation rental. There is a Canoe club, Field Club with tennis, croquet and bocce ball, a highly rated resort golf course by Jack Nicklaus, the pool complex and multiple bonfire pits. All amenities are spaced out to create a vacation village. There are two chapels located on the property that are very popular for weddings. Several restaurants give you plenty of relaxing options anytime of day–from a take out market, to a breakfast and lunch location, two fine dining restaurants, a wine cellar entertainment space and multiple event rooms. I was able to sample food from several of the restaurants and each meal was delicious, beautifully presented and some of the best food I have had in a long time.
ACCOMMODATIONS
My room was located in the cottage area. Each building is a simple two-story southern style building and houses some of the most beautiful rooms a resort could offer. The rooms and the bathrooms are spacious and each room in the building I was in had a patio or balcony overlooking the water. Service was consistently outstanding with nightly turn-down service, replenishment of ice in your room, toiletries and even bug spray! The resort staff at all levels is attentive, hospitable, friendly, talkative and above all highly trained. Due to the sheer size and layout of the resort, it often feels like you are the only one there. There is no noise! It is one of the most peaceful and beautiful locations you can find.
OVERALL
The property is so well appointed with shops, restaurants, activities, rentals, pools (family and quiet adult-only) that Montage Palmetto Bluff is one of those spots you can check-in and not leave until your vacation is over. It is a perfect place to walk, bike, canoe or zip around on golf carts or you can take a short 20 minute drive into Hilton Head Island which is full of restaurants and activities. However you like to vacation, Montage Palmeto Bluff is a perfect destination.
