Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows why.
It has been a great year for the movies so far and it’s only June! I have to say guys – I can’t wait for Moana! There is so much about it that will make for one great movie! Moana will start her adventure into theatres on November 23rd.
I have the feeling we will all end up loving Moana by the time the film is over! Moana (voiced by newcomer Auli’i Cravalho) joins forces with a legendary demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) searching for a fabled mystery island in the Pacific. Maui has powers and a “magical fish hook” that’s been used to “stop the sun, pull islands out of the sea, and battle monsters.”

Moana is determined to become a master wayfinder, and with Maui by her side, she’s ready to set sail across the open-ocean. Wait until you see how she can run. How she can jump. And boy can she throw a spear! She isn’t immediately impressed by Maui and his bragging – and neither is her pet pig Pua! Throughout the film, Moana will display an incredible connection to nature and will be Maui’s connection to humanity. Wait until you see how Maui can change forms when he has to. He can fly. He can swim. He can run. He seems to be stuck between being a man and being a god.
The Story:
From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes Moana, a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana meets the once-mighty demigod Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess & the Frog”) and produced by Osnat Shurer (“Lifted,” “One Man Band”), “Moana” sails into U.S. theaters on Nov. 23, 2016.
Filmmakers auditioned hundreds of talented young women throughout the Pacific Islands before finding the gifted Native Hawaiian Auli’i Cravalho, who did not initially pursue the coveted role. The film’s Hawai’i-based casting director recalled her singing performance from a video submission for a fundraiser/talent showcase and asked Auli’i to come in and try out. Three auditions later, including her first trip to Burbank, Calif., she earned the title role, thanks to raw talent.
