MOANA filmmakers invite moviegoers to venture behind the scenes with “The Way to Moana.” Featuring commentary from filmmakers, voice talent, songwriters, and key advisors from the Pacific Islands, the new featurette dives into the research and collaboration that went into the film, helping to ensure the story celebrates the Pacific Island cultures that so deeply inspired it.
Appealing equally to the eyes, ears, heart and funny bone, Moana represents contemporary Disney at its finest — a vibrant adventure that combines state-of-the-art animation with traditional storytelling and colorful characters.

Drawing upon the folkloric cultures of the Pacific Islands, this tale is about a self-possessed teen who embarks on a quest to save her home turf from looming extinction.
The Story
Even though she has felt the call of the ocean since she was a child, Moana has been forbidden by her father, Tui, the chief of the village of Motunui, to travel beyond the reef that surrounds their island.
When a critical ecological occurrence threatens their future, Moana defies her father’s wishes, setting out into the uncharted waters to undo a curse placed upon her people after Maui, the demigod of the wind and sea, stole the heart of Te Fiti, the mother island.
Accompanied Heihei, a rainbow-colored chicken who isn’t very bright, Moana soon comes face to face with Maui, who turns out to be a not so feared semi-deity. The two join forces, facing numerous obstacles before reuniting the glowing green heart with its rightful owner.
