I was able to take a quick trip to the Magic Kingdom® this week and I basically wanted to see what was happening with the hub expansion. The Magic Kingdom® will always be my favorite park but over the last few years the constant construction has me wondering if there will be any time soon that we can visit the park without walking around construction walls.
The expansion of the central hub is due to include new pathways, restaurant seating and a special area for fireworks viewing. This was announced in February, 2014 on the Disney Parks Blog, and the blog offered the following video to let us know what the plans are:
Both sides of the end of Main Street have construction walls to hide what is going on. As always, these construction walls often create some crowding issues since they protrude out into walkway areas. The outside seating areas at Casey’s Corner and the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor are limited and both areas having you sitting on top of construction walls. From what I saw by going into the eating area of the Tomorrowland Terrace I have a hard time imagining what the Central Plaza hub will look like when they are through. I’m sure it will be wonderful since most large enhancements they take on always result in something great. However, at this point it is more of an annoyance and a big mess!
