Everyone deserves to receives “kudos” when they do a good job, but recently I have come across lots of posts relating to Walt Disney World® or Disneyland® Cast Members not doing what is expected, not being as friendly, bubbly or as helpful as everyone has come to expect from Cast Members. Rarely do I see anything being posted about special Cast Members that were great. I am always surprised when I read these posts because I can honestly say I have never encountered a Cast Member that didn’t go out of their way. In an effort to let everyone know that great and special Cast Members do really exist, I decided on my recent trip that I would report on specific Cast Members that I thought were outstanding and that really helped to make my experience magical!
I have to say – I did not come across any Cast Member – from check-in at Coronado Springs Resort – to Bell Services – to Bus Drivers – to servers in restaurants – to attendants at entrance turnstiles that were anything but friendly, excited and welcoming. I can even say the security personnel at the bag check lines were great! However, I picked two Cast Members that truly made my trip wonderful!
Jessica – Keys to the Kingdom Tour Guide
For those of you that have never experienced Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom tour (a review I will be posting in coming days) it is outstanding! It is a five-hour walking tour throughout the Magic Kingdom – that also includes behind the scenes portions (that were fascinating) as well as a trip to the famous “utilidors” tunnels. Jessica, in charge of a group of 18 people, helped make this five hours one of the highlights of my trip. I can only imagine how difficult it is to talk, non-stop for five hours while guiding 18 headset wearing strangers through the Magic Kingdom, behind the scenes into restricted areas without ever dropping the smile from your face. One would think that talking for 5 hours non-stop in 90 degree heat, high humidity and a costume made of wool, would put a damper on a guides “perkiness” by the end of the tour – not Jessica – she started our tour with a great big smile and bubbly personality and was still smiling and bubbly 5 hours later! Her knowledge, her willingness to answer questions, her sense of humor and her ability to make each tour member feel like she was speaking directly to them on a private tour made the experience one of the best things I have done at WDW. Even though I am a frequent visitor to WDW, and have always thought I knew almost everything there is to know – I learned so much about my favorite place. Jessica truly made this tour a wonderful experience for everyone! Kudos to Jessica! I would definitely consider doing this tour again – especially if I can be assured that Jessica would be my guide!
Ryan – Cast Member Server at the California Grill
During my trip I was excited to have dinner at California Grill. I had not been there since the re-opening and I was meeting a friend I only get to see while at WDW. My thoughts on the refurbishment will be another post because this post is all about RYAN! First, Ryan has great hair. I know this has nothing to do with his ability or talents as a server but it has to be mentioned! He knows the menu and the cocktails and his recommendations were all perfect – again everything you would expect from a great server. But his personality makes your time at the California Grill memorable!
I must admit, we were probably not an easy bunch – 4 women who chat regularly, but rarely in person – all speaking at the same time. There was wine and sampling of an array of cocktails involved. So put together 4 women, several cocktails made up of various types of liquor, 3 extra women dropping by our table to visit and the 2 men at the next table that we included in our conversation and needless to say we were not your typical, subdued California Grill diners! Ryan easily fit into our little group. The smile never left his face. He became a part of our party without ever shunning his duties to the other tables he was responsible for. He seemed to be right next to us whenever we needed something. He was without any doubt the very best server I have had in a long, long time and the fact that he never became frazzled, rushed, or annoyed with our boisterous behavior puts him right at the top of my “Kudos to Cast Members” list. We were not an easy group and chances are he was happy to see us go. But he never showed it. He participated in our fun, in our happiness about being with friends we rarely get to see and helped make our time at the California Grill perfect!
“KUDOS” to Jessica and Ryan for helping to make my most recent WDW visit magical!
