It’s Time to Believe in Artemis Fowl

A genius. A criminal mastermind. A millionaire. And he is only twelve years old. What can a Disney film do with that?

I’ll admit I’m intrigued.

I’ll also admit I have never read the series of books so had to do a bit of research when Disney dropped this trailer. I’ll definitely be reading them now!

Who is Artemis Fowl?

Twelve-year-old Artemis Fowl is a millionaire, a genius-and, above all, a criminal mastermind. But even Artemis doesn’t know what he’s taken on when he kidnaps a fairy, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit. These aren’t the fairies of bedtime stories; these fairies are armed and dangerous.

About the Movie

Directed by Kenneth Branagh and based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer, ARTEMIS FOWL follows 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.

The film stars Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Tamara Smart, Nonzo Anozie, with Josh Gad, and Judi Dench. Judy Hofflund and Kenneth Branagh are producing with Angus More Gordon and Matthew Jenkins serving as executive  producers. The screenplay is by Conor McPherson.

The trailer gives us one or two brief glimpses of Armetis, focusing instead on the underground world.

About the Story

Artemis Fowl is part of a series of eight books by Irish author Eoin Colfer. The movie is based on the first book of the series.

Twelve-year-old Artemis Fowl is the most ingenious criminal mastermind in history. With two trusty sidekicks in tow, he hatches a cunning plot to divest the fairy-folk of their pot of gold. Of course, he isn’t foolish enough to believe in all that “gold at the end of the rainbow” nonsense. Rather, he knows that the only way to separate the little people from their stash is to kidnap one of them and wait for the ransom to arrive.

When the time comes to put his plan into action, he doesn’t count on the appearance of the extra small, pointy-eared Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon (Lower Elements Police Reconnaisance) Unit–and her senior officer, Commander Root, a man who will stop at nothing to get her back.

Artemis matches wits with this hidden race of fairies since they may or may not be connected to his father’s disappearance.
