Charlotte is truly a gem when it comes to family fun. The area is exploding with things to do for singles, couples and families. Whether you are visiting or a local, here is a look at family fun in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Carowinds is a personal favorite. I love amusement parks and this one delivers something for the whole family from rides to a water park to park events – Carowinds has it all. The rides are broken into categories: roller coaster, thrill, family friendly and kids. Carolina Harbour at Carowinds is a water oasis offering an entertaining experience for all. Here are a few things to know before you go and also check out their website to plan your visit.
Discovery Place has been in operation for years and continues to be a premier source for great family fun in Charlotte. All about exploring, nature, and kids, Discovery Place gets it right every time by intriguing the mind and encouraging the learning process. Broken up into three smaller museums, you might actually get lost in your interest. Discovery Place Nature Museum offers it’s own shopping, dining, exhibits, events and shows. The other two smaller areas, Discovery Place Science Museum and Discovery Place Kids Museum, do too.
Embrace the Children’s Theater of Charlotte and see the latest production. You will always see a great show and never be disappointed! The theater is located inside ImaginOn so you can do both of these locations the same day.
The Carolinas Aviation Museum is a great place to learn about the history of aviation. The exhibits are impressive and will change the way you think about the start of aviation. Hats off to the Carolinas with the history of flying. Now I know why their tags really read “First In Flight.”
Ray’s Splash Planet won my heart with free swim lessons. Beyond that, Ray’s Splash Planet offers plenty of wholesome fun for the entire family. Please check out the know before you go guidelines, and learn about the story behind Ray’s World.
ImaginOn is a completely different experience. Totally unique and one of a kind! The website describes it as “ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center is a one-of-a-kind youth destination located in Charlotte, NC, in the heart of the cultural arts district. This collaborative effort between the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and Children’s Theater of Charlotte is a 102,000-square-foot facility recently ranked by Livability.com as the No. 1 children’s library in the United States.” and that is what makes it so amazing! This library completely embraces the whole child throughout their journey and is truly worth a peek. The teen loft is outstanding too!
Charlotte Center City Carriage Tours are a nice family friendly experience. Take a peek at the different experiences offered on their website. I particularly like the historical tour.
The Mint Museum is fun as well and offers great insight and diversity on several different cultures and arts. My favorite is the Romare Bearden exhibit in Uptown Charlotte. They have two locations so plan your visit to ensure you are able to see everything you desire. The locations are in Uptown Charlotte and Randolph, NC.
Charlotte welcomes visitors you with open arms and southern hospitality and is full of family friendly adventure.
