It has been reported that Disneyland recently began testing FastPass scanning similar to the testing that started at Walt Disney World before the implementation of FastPass+ and Magic Band systems. According to a company source, the test is limited to Space Mountain and is allowing Disney to gauge the efficiency of a barcoded FastPass system at the ride’s entrance. Guests holding a paper FastPass for Space Mountain are being taken through a roped-off queue area and asked to press the barcode of their FastPass against one of two readers. The lights on the readers turn green when the pass is validated. Guests at Disneyland show a paper ticket FastPass displaying the return time to ride an attraction as guests did at Walt Disney World before the FastPass+ and Magic Band system went into effect.
No one seems to know how long the test period will run or if this technology test is, in fact, leading up to the same FastPass+ and Magic Band systems that Walt Disney World uses being implemented at Disneyland.
