My recent stay at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando, which I discussed here in an Overview post in October, proved to be the perfect spot for a stay in the Orlando and Walt Disney World® area. Located adjacent to Walt Disney World® Resort, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress offers deluxe accommodations in a secluded setting, yet is close enough to all the major theme parks the area offers, making it a perfect location for the adult traveler. On my recent stay at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, I was able to enjoy dinner at the Cascades American Bistro. The atmosphere is ideal with large windows overlooking the beautiful Grand Cypress grounds and Lake Windsong. Cascades is not an overly large restaurant so comes across as intimate and inviting.The centerpiece of the room is a floor to ceiling mermaid fountain and waterfall. We were seated right along the rear windows and our view was magnificent! The restaurant hours for breakfast are 7 a.m. to11:30 a.m., Monday-Friday and 7 a.m. to Noon, Saturday and Sunday with a Breakfast Buffet served on Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to Noon. Lunch is served from noon to 2 p.m. daily (hours may vary based on occupancy and business) and dinner is served from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The restaurant offers an American cuisine, serving local Florida ingredients, as well as a large assortment of sushi. Menu Our meal started with an array of appetizers recommended by our server and I will admit – one was more delicious than the next. I actually could have just filled up on these appetizers and never had a full meal! Dinner was a difficult choice. The restaurant offers Perfectly Portioned dishes, Create Your Own dishes offering several main dish items that you can pair with your choice of sauces and sides, Beef, Poultry, Fish and Shellfish. Also, offered are several hearth baked breads made in-house from scratch. A member of my party, a Vegan, wasn’t sure what to order – no problem – Kyle Anderson, Sous Chef Tournant came to our table and discussed some great choices with her and created a dish just for her based on what she indicated she liked. Not sure what we would call it, but I do know it contained beans and carrot pasta and according to my friend was delicious! On the recommendation of my host, I ordered the crab cakes – lightly seasoned blue crab, summer pea salad, Fennel and Florida oranges. I live in South Carolina in a town (Murrells Inlet) that is said to be the “Seafood Capital of South Carolina” so can often be critical of seafood eaten elsewhere. I am so glad I ordered the crab cakes – full of crab – not breading – moist and absolutely wonderful! After the full array of appetizers, another member of my party (a bit full already) ordered from the Perfectly Portioned section of the menu: Our host ordered from the “Create Your Own” section of the menu and had Chicken served just the way she wanted it! The restaurant offers a nice cocktail/wine/beer selection, as well as a dessert offering that includes a S’more Brownie Sundae, Florida Style Coconut Cream Pie, Oreo Ice Cream Cake, Peanut Butter Lava Cake, and Ice Cream/ chocolate, vanilla, strawberry. Prices for dinner are reasonable with entrees ranging from $19 to $30. Overall, the food was delicious, the service outstanding and the atmosphere the perfect spot to spend an evening with friends. Even if staying elsewhere (although I highly recommend staying at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress), a dinner at Cascades American Bistro makes a visit to this resort worth it.
