Tips for Going Camping with the Kids for the Very First Time

Sharing is caring!

Going on vacation when you have kids can be a thrilling experience. You may feel excited about the mere thought of showing them the great outdoors and you may even be able to teach them a thing or two along the way as well.

If you want to make sure that the whole trip goes as smoothly as possible then here are a few tips that will help.

Camping at Home

If your kids are new to outdoor camping, then consider pitching a tent in the yard or even in the front room. You also need to let them hang out there and even sleep in it if they want.

This will help them to become more comfortable and it will also help them to adjust to the new environment. If you are concerned about your kids and taking them out then you may also want to try and arrange a family camping trip closer to home or a resort campsite. This is a great way for you to see how your kids react.

Let them Pack

You need to give your kids a high level of responsibility. You need to give them the chance to pack their own camping gear and even let them choose what essentials they want to take. Just make sure that you check what they have packed before you set off.

If you want to make things easier for the whole family then it helps to make sure that each duffel bag is a different colour. This will help you with identification and it will also save arguments when you arrive too.

Pack Foods that your Kids Love

One of the best things about going camping is the fact that you can share meals around the fire.

Nothing can quite compare to roasting marshmallows or even sausages. It’s important that you give your children the chance to contribute to the menu and decide what they want to have as well. This will really help you out when you are there, and it will also make them feel more involved.

Choose the Right Campsite

Choosing the right campsite is vital. You need to choose somewhere that can easily meet the needs of your family. Some camp grounds will have their own ball parks, and others will have streams, rivers or even swimming pools.

If it is your first time going then stay close to home and also make sure that you choose a more developed area. They will probably have tons of amenities to offer, so you will never be short of things to do.

Your Gear

Organization is key when you are going camping for the very first time. It helps to try and pack everything in separate compartments if you can, for example, having the kitchen stuff in one box and then your sleeping bags in another.

It’s also important to take a camping mattress with you so that you don’t have to worry about sleeping on rocks or uncomfortable terrain. Taking an extra blanket is also a good idea, in case the nights grow a little colder than expected.
