Since I knew very little about dining at Disneyland® going into my recent first trip, I let my friend make all reservations for my meals – I have always trusted her Disney judgement and knew she would not steer me wrong! One of the reservations she made was for Cafe Orleans in New Orleans Square. The only negative I will say is that we were given too much food! A good thing for most! In the future, I would share my meal with a friend or family member so that nothing is wasted. You can dine on the covered patio or inside where you can see some vintage artifacts from Walt’s day, including the same expresso machine used to make a cup for Walt!. Cafe Orleans, originally known as Creole Cafe, has been in existence since New Orleans Square opened in 1966.
Due to the unusual heat and humidity during our stay, we decided to dine inside and I couldn’t have been happier – the interior features dark wood, brass fixtures and stained glass.
The menu is not large but we still had a difficult time making our selections. Cafe Orleans is known for their Monte Cristo ($17.99) sandwich that is described as “a delectable deep-fried sandwich, hands down the house specialty. Adapted from the classic French croque-monsieur sandwich, this battered turkey, ham and Swiss treat dusted with powdered sugar and served with berry purée is truly a slice of heaven.” After reading that description that is what my friend and I settled on.
My daughter, allergic to wheat, settled on the “Crescent City” Salad with Blackened Chicken served on top of fresh Spinach and Mixed Baby Greens, tossed with Carmelized Pecans, Red Grapes, Navel Orange Segments, Caramezlied Onions, Chopped Green Onions, Roasted Sweet Corn, and Orange-Cilantro Vinaigrette ($15.50). She asked for the dish without the pecans – another allergy – and the staff was very helpful with this request.
We all decided to share an order of another house specialty – Parmesan pommes frites served with Cajun spice remoulade ($5.50).
I was thrilled with every aspect of our meal – we enjoyed excellent service – really good food – a comfortable atmosphere and I felt it was reasonably priced for the amount of food we received. I would highly recommend Cafe Orleans to anyone visiting Disneyland!
