Boardwalk Bakery WDW Recipes
Before we get to the recipes, let’s chat a little about the Disney’s BoardWalk area.
Disney’s BoardWalk is a quarter-mile promenade of dining, shops and nightlife. Stroll along the water’s edge, play afternoon midway games and discover evening street performers. Evoking turn-of-the-century boardwalks in such coastal cities as Coney Island and Atlantic City. Disney’s BoardWalk is a short stroll to Epcot and a breezy boat ride to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Many that stay regularly in one of the resorts along the BoardWalk enjoy a stroll every morning (possibly to the bakery!) or each evening for relaxation. The resorts along the BoardWalk include the BoardWalk Inn, The Beach Club and the Yacht Club.
Another great way to see the BoardWalk area is to incorporate it into your Epcot day. Epcot’s International Gateway entrance leads right to the BoardWalk area. You can walk or take a quick boat ride there and back.
The BoardWalk Bakery, located along the Jersey shore themed boardwalk at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Villas, is everyone’s favorite spot to get a Disney sweet treat! Chocolate croissants, eclairs, cannolis, cupcakes and more make the trip over to the Boardwalk worth every step!
Along with all of the sweets on display, you can also choose from a small limited menu of house-specialty salads and sandwiches, a large selection of hot and cold beverages. But let’s be honest – very few go to the BoardWalk Bakery for food.
It’s definitely all about the cakes! I can honestly say I’ve never had anything from the BoardWalk Bakery besides coffee and cakes. I’ve never tried the any of the limited sandwich menu but I have tried lots of different sweets.
#1 – Peanut Butter-Banana-Applewood Smoked Candied Bacon Pie
It’s Definitely a Mouth-Full!
One of my older favorites (they don’t always have it anymore) is what I call “BoardWalk Pie”. I call it that simply because the real name is waaaaaaay too long! Peanut Butter-Banana-Applewood Smoked Candied Bacon Pie is definitely a mouth-full!
If you’re a peanut butter lover, this is the treat for you!
When you make this recipe at home, keep in mind it won’t look like it does at the BoardWalk Bakery, unless you have a really great cake decorator at home.
The at-home recipe has you make the pie in a round pre-made graham cracker crust so you won’t get square pieces. You can, of course, adjust the recipe by making your own crust layer. I don’t think it’s worth the extra work and recipe adjustment just for the pieces to be the same shape.
I have adapted the recipe given by WDW a bit. The original recipe they offer calls for 2 tablespoons of sugar. I have bumped up the sugar (by double). At 2 tablespoons the recipe definitely did not have the same sweetness as when we get the pie from the BoardWalk Bakery.
The recipe supplied by Disney also doesn’t include the chocolate ganache topping. But ganache is ganache so I always add that topping. Without it, your pie will be a lighter color of peanut butter with bacon on top – definitely won’t look the same. Actually doesn’t even look appetizing – but it does taste good! – and that’s all that matters.
Add the ganache because that also adds to the flavor and the appearance.
Boardwalk Pie
You won't believe how delicious this is! Taste just like what you get at Disney.
Ingredients
- 3 thick slices applewood smoked bacon
- 9-inch store-bought chocolate graham cracker pie crust
- 1 cup cream cheese
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 bananas, sliced
Chocolate Ganache for Topping
- Heavy Cream or Heavy Whipping Cream: Do not use half-and-half, whole milk,
- Pure Chocolate: You can use semi-sweet chocolate (recommended), bittersweet chocolate, milk chocolate, or white chocolate
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Line a small baking sheet with parchment paper, and place a wire rack over the baking sheet.
Coat bacon on both sides with brown sugar.
Place on rack and bake 20 to 30 minutes, or until crispy, depending on thickness of bacon.
Remove from oven. Once cooled, dice and set aside.
Blend together peanut butter, cream cheese, and sugar until smooth.
Whip cream to soft peaks in a separate bowl; gently fold into peanut butter mixture.
Fill pie shell halfway with mixture, then evenly top with banana slices.
Top slices with remaining mixture.
Sprinkle with chopped bacon. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Chocolate Ganache for Topping: When making homemade ganache, you need a 1:1 ratio of cream to chocolate.
Place finely chopped chocolate into a heat-proof glass or metal bowl.
Heat cream on the stovetop until just simmering. If it’s boiling, the cream is too hot and could separate or even burn the chocolate.
Once you see little simmers around the edges, turn off the heat and immediately pour the warm cream over the chocolate.
Let the two sit for a few minutes before stirring.
Stir until smooth and use immediately.
Notes
For a little extra, I sometimes use crunchy peanut butter. I have also found that the recommended 2 tablespoons of sugar just isn't enough. I usually double that. At 2 tablespoons the pie isn't sweet at all (at least for me).

#2 – Strawberry Cheesecake Cupcake
Absolutely – Positively – the best!
The BoardWalk Bakery always has some form of a strawberry cupcake. Sometimes with a cream cheese or cheesecake spin – sometimes just all strawberry!
For some reason the fruit (especially the strawberries and bananas) always seem fresher and tastier at Disney. Stick that fruit in some cake and OMG!
These are an absolute delicious treat for company or just a little something extra for the family! You can make them with any other fruit that you like to pair with cheese cake too!
These cupcakes are some of the best and easiest fruit filled cupcakes you’ll ever make.
