Best Ski Area for Non-Skiers to Visit

Oh to be young again! I always loved to ski and absolutely loved taking ski trips with friends and family. Unfortunately, I am no longer as athletic, daring or agile as I used to be so I have given up skiing – but I haven’t given up going on those great ski trips with friends and family!

Best Ski Area for Non-Skiers

Ski season may be in full swing, but hitting the slopes isn’t for everyone. Imagine a winter wonderland where the joy of the season isn’t just limited to those who shred the gnar. Deadwood Mountain Grand (DMG) in Deadwood, South Dakota, is a premier location for visitors who want a little bit of everything! Located just 15 minutes away from Terry Peak, a beloved ski area nestled in the Northern Black Hills of South Dakota, DMG is the perfect winter basecamp for skiers and non-skiers alike.

 For the History Buff

The Town of Deadwood was once home to notable figures in the Wild West, including Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok. Today, DMG is the perfect place to get away and immerse yourself in the rich history and beauty of the Black Hills in South Dakota, once enjoyed by these prominent figures. Located in the renovated Homestake Slime Plant, DMG breathes new life into this building of the past. The hotel overlooks Deadwood, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area while steps away from the historic downtown area, where you check out museums and historic reenactments.

For the One Who is Only Interested in Après Ski

The property features a recently renovated 98-room luxury hotel, an indoor pool and hot tub, and two full-service restaurants, including Dale’s Sportsbook Bar & Grill. The perfect place to bundle up the fire, watch the game, grab a few drinks, or enjoy fine steaks and seafood.

For the Gamer

Feeling lucky? DMG offers 210 state-of-the-art casino games and high-stakes gaming action. Guests can enjoy lively table games and high-tech slots. It pays to play at DMG!

For the Concert Lover

DMG boasts a 3,000-person entertainment and event center that’s hosted everyone from Dolly Parton to Willie Nelson. It’s the Town’s only large-scale event center, and it is adjoined to DMG’s hotel and casino, so concert-goers can relax and unwind after the show in their rooms or continue the party with gaming, drinks, and good food!

For the Outdoorsy Type who Doesn’t Ski

Staying at the Deadwood Mountain Grand property allows you to enjoy a serene hotel setting and the adventures that await outside your hotel door, from snow-filled activities to the immersive Wild West experience in Town. Just outside the back door of DMG, visitors have direct access to more than 300 miles of snowmobiling trails, making it a seamless transition to and from their hotel rooms. Guests can also take advantage of ice skating and even icy bumper cars in Outlaw Square, a local gathering hub for the Deadwood community.
