On March 17, experience an adventure in the great wide somewhere. An adaptation of the Disney fairy-tale about a monstrous prince and a young woman who fall in love. There is so much we all love about the original animated classic. It was one of the very first Disney movies my then 4 year old daughter (in 1991) fell in love with so it has a very special place in my heart. She would dance and spin and sing the songs for hours and now we will get to re-live that wonder with my granddaughter in a totally different way. Our copy of the animated film is well worn!
A Tale as Old as Time
There is a long history behind Beauty and the Beast that few people realize. Beauty and the Beast was more than 50 years in the making. It was one of the first fairy tales Walt Disney tried to adapt after the success of his first animated feature, 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but his writers couldn’t get a handle on the story. Before the Disney release, the most famous film version of Beauty and the Beast was the 1946 live-action film by Jean Cocteau. From this classic French film, the Disney version would borrow the ideas of a rival suitor for Belle and household objects in the Beast’s castle coming to life. Long before Toy Story, Beauty and the Beast marked one of Disney’s first collaborations with Pixar, which lent its computer-animation software to the sequence where Belle and the Beast dance to the title ballad. Beauty and the Beast also became the first animated film ever to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. It was also the last, until Disney~Pixar’s “Up” 18 years later.
The newest poster above shows all of the stars from Beauty and the Beast, with Belle (Emma Watson) and Beast (Dan Stevens) front and center. If you watched the Golden Globes last night you most likely saw this latest trailer. I keep watching it over and over again hoping for more of a glimpse of what is sure to be my new favorite movie! I am so excited waiting to see this version of Beauty and the Beast!
