The island covers an area of 5.8 square miles. This island was struck by Hurricane Floyd in 1999. Since that time, the island has not been recognized as a distinct island. The north side of the island is a marsh. The other sides of the island consists of beach areas. Seasonally, large sand bars emerge from the sea and can be seen from the island.
