There is a new app being tested – for now only at Hollywood Studios – that will allow guests the opportunity to order their lunch from quick service locations while still enjoying attractions and then arrive to either eat at the location picking your order up at the counter or having it delivered to a table or take the meal packaged with them. The new test uses an app called Express Order. Though this app features an interface that is similar to My Disney Experience, it is not part of the My Disney Experience system and uses your phone’s Bluetooth and location service to allow Cast Members to get your order ready.
Guests who wish to place an order with this app must pay upon pickup or delivery, credit card or Apple Pay. Cash is not accepted and Disney Dining Plan credits cannot be used while using this new ordering system at this time.
If you want to take part in this test, you can download the app from the App Store (or Google Play) and give it a try from April 28-May 12. Note: counter pick up will only be available from April 28-May 4th at Backlot Express while table delivery at this location is only available May 5-12.
While I think this may be a good idea – I think being able to order my lunch so that it will be ready when I arrive at the quick location, I’m not sure I will be a fan of the “to go” method in the parks. Having lots of people enjoying a picnic type lunch while sitting in a grassy area or other open area simply leaves room for a mess. Let’s face it, there are lots of people that leave trash behind an I think this opens up the ability for sloppy guests to leave trash laying around from their picnic. Not to mention the birds and ducks that will now be following around all those little ones with a half eaten sandwich in their hand that they then drop and place and keep moving.
