UPDATE: As of today, December 17, 2015 metal detectors are in place and being used at park entrances. No guns of any kind – real or fake will be allowed in parks and they will not be stored for you. Make sure to leave the toys in the car, hotel or better yet at home. All of the toy guns for sale have also been removed from the parks. The metal detectors have been set up and random screening will be taking place. When visiting the parks, be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get through security lines. According to reports Disney will also be banning people 14 and older from wearing masks – even at Halloween parties. However, the Orlando Sentinal is reporting that guests over the age of 14 will not be allowed to wear costumes. Photos Courtesy of www.wdwmagic.com
Beginning the end of this week (December 17) it is being reported that there will be changes coming to park entrances at Walt Disney World. According to the reports, some of the changes will include guests being required to walk through scanners similar to those at airports; security personnel using hand held wand scanners; and, additional uniformed and armed police along with K-9 units.
With all that is going on in the world today, I think this was bound to happen eventually since the bag check currently done was sometimes minimal at best and there were many guests allowed in without going through a security line because they had no bag. It is yet unclear if they will require all guests to enter through the scanners.
I am sure last week’s episode of a gentleman trying to enter the park with a gun has prompted this change.
