I was able to attend the opening Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party last night at the Magic Kingdom. The party was sold out, which surprised me, since the early parties held in September have always been less crowded. I was also surprised that Disney did not seem to be as prepared as they usually are for this party.
When we arrived at 4 p.m. crews were still hanging some decorations and signs around the entrance gates. Throughout the evening, quite a few of the big lighted pumpkins that are used to indicate the start of a trick or treat line were in the wrong locations. The special party map which uses Mickey head icons to indicate the location of meet and greet areas for special characters was confusing and didn’t really pin-point the location for you at all. Some of the candy I received was frozen. There were several little things throughout the night that just seemed “off.”
Overall, it was a good time since the entertainment at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is some of my favorite. The highlight of the evening for me was the new Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular stage show held in front of the castle 4 times throughout the evening. I think this is one of the best new done in a while.
In “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular,” the Sanderson Sisters from Disney’s “Hocus Pocus” return to the mortal world for one night during the Halloween season. With only a few hours to run amuck, the three sisters decide to use their magic to throw the best, evil Halloween party this side of the graveyard!
I loved the show – here is a video shot by Big Fat Panda – he did an outstanding job capturing the entire thing!
