As some of you know, my daughter is an Executive Chef so I am not normally overly impressed by good food since it is something I have regularly. I also tend to be overly critical when it comes to eating out since I have come to expect the high quality and outstanding flavors I get at my daughter’s restaurant. Without a doubt, La Luce® by Donna Scala is one of the best fine dining experiences I have ever had! The company, the atmosphere, the service, the food – all outstanding! You will have to forgive the limited number of photos since I so enjoyed my time at La Luce®, I forgot I was working!!! It was definitely one of the most relaxed and wonderful meals I have had in a long time! I think I may have insulted my daughter when I told her it was the best meal and best restaurant experience I have had in a long time!
La Luce® by Donna Scala is located in the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek (see my recent review of this resort ***HERE***). La Luce® serves dinner daily from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and offers thin crust pizzas, family-style pastas, Mediterranean-inspired drinks and a Trattoria-style wine program, all in a fine dining atmosphere.
Here is what the PR hand-outs say about La Luce®:
“At La Luce®, the preparation of your meal has begun long before you arrive. Donna Scala has earned a reputation throughout the culinary community as a food purist, and her high standards of excellence shine through in everything from the salt on the table to the grass-fed beef. Dishes are prepared with the freshest local ingredients, and contain nothing more or less than they need for absolute perfection and balance.
Combining Italian tradition and Californian innovation – and with a liberal dash of Napa Valley’s unique approach to freshness and flavor thrown in – the menu at La Luce® effortlessly marries old-world technique with nouveau chic. Thin pizzas are piled high with creamy mozzarella cheese and bright wisps of basil. Perfectly balanced lasagna becomes an edible architectural creation staggering sweet ricotta with savory marinara and delicately spiced meatballs. Every dish has been painstakingly crafted to provide the ultimate dining experience. Our food invites diners to savor the truly unique taste of fresh Italian cuisine prepared the way it was meant to be: hearty, yet not overwhelming. And featuring a Trattoria-style wine menu – as well as signature liquor drinks – our passion for perfection carries through to our drinks and spirits.”
From the moment we were seated, our server Joe made us feel as if we were long time friends. His knowledge of the menu, the food preparation and his suggestions were all outstanding. Although we were not his only guests, he made us feel as if he was there to only take care of us. Joe was without any doubt one of the best servers I have ever come across.
We started with cocktails (Kir Royale – creme de cassis and champagne) that were delivered almost immediately after we ordered and made exactly the way we wanted. While we sipped our cocktails we had an opportunity to really go over the menu and talk to Joe about his recommendations (all spot on!) and decide on whether or not we should chance some appetizers. Everything on the menu looked wonderful and we didn’t want to risk over-eating. However, we did go with a small dish to share that Joe brought out for us to sample that consisted of chicken and pasta – both done in the most wonderful and delicious and seasoned sauces that I could have made a meal of them both.
For dinner my friend order the Seared Salmon Filet that comes with Potato Puree and Tomato Chive Butter Sauce. It disappeared so quickly from her plate (a sign that it was delicious) that I never had the chance to take a picture!
I ordered the Spaghetti alle Vongole: Roasted Clams-Tomato-Chilies-Toasted Garlic-Pinot Grigio. Outstanding! and…a large portion that I was not able to finish.
After several cocktails, an excellent meal – and extremely attentive service – we were on to dessert! My companion ordered the Butterscotch Pudding. Some may think this is an unusual thing to order in a fine dining establishment. However, the Butterscotch Pudding at La Luce® is so popular – it has its own Facebook Fan Page!
I ordered one of the desserts that was a special for the evening which was a sundae combination that included cake, ice cream, sauces and puddings, large enough that two could easily share it – and delicious!
The menu is large, but not so large that it becomes overwhelming, with prices ranging from $18 to $42 for entrees (not unreasonable for such an outstanding fine dining experience). They offer a nice wine list but if you are lucky enough to have Joe as your server I would recommend not even reading the list – just take his recommendations and suggestions.
I hope you all get to visit La Luce® by Donna Scala on your next trip to Orlando – you will not be disappointed! Even if staying on Walt Disney World® property, it is worth the trip to the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort, not only to dine at La Luce® but to also get at look at an outstanding resort.
