The long awaited and highly anticipated Festival of Fantasy Parade at the Magic Kingdom® in Walt Disney World® made its debut on Sunday, March 9 – all I can say is it was well worth the wait! What a spectacular event – yes, event – this parade is. It is without any doubt, the best parade created at the Magic Kingdom® EVER!
As someone that has been visiting Walt Disney World® since the 70’s, this parade has so many great things about it – the costumes, the floats, the music – all wonderfully blending together to make for a full 15 minutes of AWESOME!! I was able to view the parade on Sunday and again on Monday and was fascinated by the costumes, the movement – some of the cast seem to “glide” effortlessly to the music and the enthusiasm that the “festival” brings out in the crowd.
The parade features characters from over a dozen classic stories in nine floats. Each float is surrounded by additional cast members that dance, perform on stilts or on swings. I think the costumes are the most elaborate ever seen in a Magic Kingdom® parade and add so much to the performances of the cast members.
I think what stayed with me was the fact that the parade is multi-generational. It showcases Disney characters from my youth, from my children’s youth and current characters from today’s popular Disney movies – and a fire breathing dragon too! I had the opportunity to speak with the parade Executive Producer Sayre Wiseman (also responsible for World of Color at Disneyland®) and asked her if one of the original intents in the creation of the parade was this multi-generational factor. Her reply – “No, it wasn’t – we were just lucky that it worked out that way!” Disney magic at it’s finest!
