For our Fall break a few years ago, we traded in our landlubber shoes and set sail on board the Disney Dream®. At that time, the Disney Dream® was the newest in Disney Cruise Line fleet, and we were giddy with anticipation. The kids couldn’t wait to try the AquaDuck! I had heard wonderful stories about the Animator’s Palate and the theatrical shows. And all of us were eager for our Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure. Naturally, bearing the Disney brand meant a high comfort level for my family; we knew standards would be high and expectations would be exceeded. And boy, we were right!
As parents of two active, energetic kids, my husband and I seldom get time for just the two of us. Prior to setting sail, I heard amazing stories of the spa indulgences available. And to quote the movie Jerry Maguire, “Disney, you had me at hello!” But one spa offering in particular grabbed my attention and just wouldn’t let go – the couples massage on Castaway Cay. In the spirit of full disclosure, I must say that my husband is a good sport, but the spa is not tops on his to-do list. Nevertheless, he knew this was important to me, so he took one for the team and we signed up for an afternoon of bliss. (OK so it was only an hour, but it felt like an afternoon!)
So like two kids on their way to Goofy’s Candy Company, we checked our children into the Kids Club at Scuttle’s Cove and away we cavorted to Serenity Bay, the adults-only beach. Two therapists greeted us at the appointed hour to get information from us about our overall health and previous massage experience, and then we relaxed and got settled in at our open air cabana. Our therapists tailored their massage techniques to our requests (therapeutic for me, Swedish for my husband). All the while, you could hear the waves in the distance as you enjoyed every second of just pure bliss. And what was so serene was what you DIDN’T hear: no one saying, “Mama” or “Look at this!” And just knowing that we both were being pampered at the same time was a real treat.
Unfortunately, we were so chilled-out afterwards that I totally neglected to take any photos of the cabana. But suffice it to say that this is one spa experience that is worth all the pirate’s booty around! We were rejuvenated, refreshed, and in effect, new parents when we returned to Scuttle’s Cove.
There are many activities and excursions I could recommend while partaking of a Disney Cruise Line vacation, but hands down the couples massage at Serenity Bay is the one that pays dividends! You should give it a try—like couples therapy, only without the nosy therapist!
