I can’t tell you how EXCITED I am for Captain America: Civil War. Chills every time I watch a new trailer. Like counting down the days, declaring my love for #TeamCap to whoever will listen, shining my Captain America Shield excited! I may have gotten in some Facebook fights, but you need to pick a side, people!
Here’s something I think we can all agree on, though – how awesome the Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR – “Girls Reforming the Future Challenge” is for our girls. Marvel is launching the GIRLS REFORMING THE FUTURE CHALLENGE to engage young women to further the Avengers’ goal of making the world a better place. Here is a brief overview.
This program, supported by the Science & Entertainment Exchange, a program of National Academy of Sciences, seeks to inspire young girls to create positive world change for their generation and beyond through science and technology. One exceptional young woman will be selected to receive a one-week internship with Marvel Studios. The challenge invites girls nationwide, ages 15 – 18, in grades 10 -12, to submit innovative STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics)-based projects that have the potential to change the world. Each applicant will be asked to submit a short video demonstrating her project and explaining how her science and technology-based project could make the world a better place. Five finalists will be selected to come to California and present their projects to a panel of experts. One grand prize winner will be selected from the five finalists to receive an internship with Marvel Studios.
An internship with Marvel Studios?? Geeking out. I’m a huge fan of Marvel, because I love the kick-butt female characters. I’d like a little more <cough cough, Marvel>, but I do love Black Widow and Scarlet Witch. I’m also excited to see Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, because she was pretty kick-butt in the TV show, Revenge. Speaking of, check out their video below.
I am so thrilled about this, because I’m the mom of 5 girls who all love Avengers and are exploring their world. They love writing, they love math, they love science, they love experiments. I am teaching them that they can do and be whatever and whomever they want! And I’m happy this program reinforces what I’m telling them. Finally something that focuses on their brains and real self-confidence.
My oldest is only 11 years old, so she can’t enter. But there are lots of high-schoolers who would thrive off of this opportunity. Let’s spread the word and help someone’s dream come true! My little Avengers would love an opportunity like this in the future, and I want to make sure that things like this will continue to be offered to them. They can change the world, you know.
Finalists will have the opportunity to inspire other young girls around the world by participating in a LIVE global Broadcom Masters webinar during which the girls will discuss how their STEM skills enabled them to create their projects and become a finalist of the Captain American Civil War: Girls Reforming the Future Challenge. The Grand Prize Winner will share her MARVEL STUDIOS Internship experience, giving girls everywhere a peak into STEM skills in action outside the lab and the classroom.
Each finalist will receive: Two round-trip tickets to Southern California for the finalist and her parent or guardian, including scheduled meals, ground transportation to and from organized activities, hotel accommodations, from April 10 through April 13,2016; an opportunity to be on the red carpet at the World Premiere of Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” at the Dolby Theatre® in Dolby Atmos® and Dolby Vision™ on April 12, 2016; a tour of the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California; and $500.00, deposited into a High Yield Savings account with Synchrony Bank.
